About Me
Whether it be through sculpted clay characters, performing various voices and impressions, shooting a film, or acting on stage, Marcus Miller has always had a passion for storytelling.
Having pursued a variety of video projects, including making a number of short films, Marcus decided to go to BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology) to sharpen his craft and attain the skillset needed to succeed in the world of film and television. Working toward a Diploma in the Television and Video Production program, Marcus gained a great level of experience developing and producing video content for different formats in a variety of positions, from producing live shows, to shooting and editing news stories for broadcast. Having served on many group projects, Marcus understands the value of teamwork and dedication, maintaining a positive attitude while working under intense pressure, and delivering quality content. With a fascination for miniature sets and models, film, as well as a love for sculpting things out of clay, Marcus found the craft that perfectly blended them together, through the art of stop-motion animation. Starting as a hobby and the occasional high school project, quickly transformed into an enchanting love for capturing images that brings paper and clay to life. Marcus also loves performing, whether on stage, in film, or through voice work, having worked on numerous projects doing countless voices and impressions. With a deep love for film and animation, Marcus has been inspired by many great artists and filmmakers including the likes of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, Brad Bird, and John Lasseter. One of his greatest influences however, is Walt Disney, for his visionary talent, pioneering the animation landscape, and creating magical empire from very small and humble beginnings. Just a few of the films that have inspired me over the years include: Jurassic Park (1993), The Star Wars Saga, The Lord of the Rings, Wallace and Gromit, classic Disney films like The Jungle Book (1967) and The Lion King (1994), The Emperor’s New Groove (2000), The Incredibles (2004), Toy Story (1995), and Shrek (2001). Marcus’ first animated short Sweet Sacrifice was entered in the 2012 Vancouver Sun/CBC Student Video Awards Contest, winning 1st place in its category, moving on to win best animation for his following projects, Bully of the Barnyard and Meeting Your Maker” (2013 and 2014). All three films were each shot in under a week, making them quite intense projects to work on. Most recently, Marcus received the November 2016 BCIT Global Television Scholarship award, to aid him in pursuing his goals while he attends his full-time studies. Being versatile in many aspects of filmmaking, Marcus primarily enjoys entertaining people, making them laugh, and leaving them feeling a little brighter, which is perhaps the most rewarding experience of all. Marcus continues to work on various video endeavors, including several film and animation projects. His latest work, The Planet Next Door, is currently finishing up its post-production and is expected to be released on April 7, 2017. |
